Cymande pronounced see-man-day is the self-titled debut album by British funk group Cymande. It was released in 1972 through Janus Records and produced entirely by John Schroeder. Album 1972 11 Songs. More by Cymande. Renegades of Funk. Second Time sound like they have done this before nowhere is this more evident than on the beautiful Dove, a gorgeous concoction of lead guitar, tambourines, haunting backing vocals, and percussion, with the horns used as sparingly as table-seasoning on a gourmet dish. Along with Bra, the group's most popular cut is The Message - it's difficult keeping body parts still on this grooving mutha. All in all, Cymande is a marvelous collection that premiered a fine funk band. Listen free to Cymande Cymande Zion I, One More and more. 9 tracks 44:02. The band name derives from a calypso word for dove, which is also the title of one of their best-known songs. With a membership deriving from several Caribbean nations, Cymande were noted for an eclectic mix of funk, soul, reggae, rock, African music, calypso, and jazz that they called nyah-rock. The band formed in 1971 and released three albums before disbanding in 1974. After gaining newfound popularity when their music was sampled by many notable rap artists, Cymande reformed in the 2010s. Can't compare this to an original but it's a surprisingly decent pressing. Definitely not high end but a decent placeholder until a decent original crosses your path. The cover is a fairly low res affair and the paper inner is too tight but the vinyl is pretty quiet and the mastering seems a little warm compared to the digital copies I've heard. Fantastic album though and enjoyable in this release.
Hi does anyone know how this latest reissue sounds compared to OG. Cheers
I also don’t have an original, but can confirm that this is a very nice-sounding pressing. I feel no need to seek out an original to replace this one.
I do. It's sounds great! Lovely warm bass great reissue
