Bad Books is the debut self-titled album from the folkindie rock collaboration project by folk artist Kevin Devine and members of indie rock band Manchester Orchestra. It was released digitally on October 19, 2010, and with a physical CD copy following on November 9, 2010 through Manchester Orchestra's own label Favorite Gentlemen Recordings. Six songs on the album were written by Kevin Devine, with the other five written by Andy Hull. Bad Books, simply put, is Kevin Devine and Manchester Orchestra. A true accident if there ever was one Bad Books was never an intended nor calculated side project of Kevin Devine and Manchester Orchestras Andy Hull. Though the two musicians have collaborated and performed together on tour a read more. Bad Books is the collaborative project of Kevin Devine and Manchester Orchestras Andy Hull & Robert McDowell, and their recently-released Bad Books III is arguably their best album yet. It eschews a traditional rhythm section and instead builds towering atmospheres with organ, foot pedals, string arrangements, and more. Bad Books. Released October 19, 2010. Bad Books Tracklist. Although they released a split EP several years later, this self-titled album is the duos first collaborative project, with both musicians sharing lead vocals and songwriting duties. The track list is split in half: Devine contributes five new tunes, most of them acoustic, introspective, indie folk ballads in the vein of Elliott Smith and Hull offers an equal amount of noisy, messy poprock in return. Bad Books was never an intended nor calculated side project of singersongwriter Kevin Devine and Andy Hull of Indie Rock band Manchester Orchestra. With no agenda or expectations, what was birthed just one week later was Bad Books, a fully realized album encompassing five compositions each from both Devine and Hull, with the members of Manchester Orchestra filling out the sound and the band. In contrast to previous outputs from the two parties, Bad Books cradles a much more noticeable pop aesthetic and energy than either artist has ever showcased before, meshing elements of Elliot Smith and S. Bad Books, 2010. Listen to the song Ambivalent Peaks from Bad Books, off of their new album, Bad Books II, available now from Triple Crown Records and Favorite Gentlemen
